The Moonflower

This piece began as a massive maple “cookie,” cut from a single section of tree. The natural grain radiates outward like petals, creating the shape of a wooden flower.

When I first saw the center void, I knew it needed light.

Instead of filling it completely with resin, I tried something new for the first time — a semi-flood resin finish, allowing the natural character of the wood to remain visible while protecting the surface.

Beneath the center void I carefully placed an integrated LED light, controlled by Bluetooth. At night, the glow rises softly through the middle of the table, almost like a moonbeam shining through the heart of the wood.

The effect completely transforms the piece.
During the day it showcases the natural beauty of maple — and at night it becomes something almost magical.

Every crack, grain line, and curve in this piece was preserved intentionally. Nature designed the flower — I simply revealed it.
